The Kingdom of Women

“It’s a place where women rule, marriage doesn’t exist and everything follows the maternal bloodline. But is it as good for women as it sounds – and how long can it last?”

  1. Interesting article. I can certainly relate to the child-care roles that uncles and other males have, and to the irrelevancy of paternity. The importance the Mosuo place on motherhood as a condition for a woman’s fulfillment is limiting, but perhaps understandable given the lack of opprotunity for other endeavors. Barring that, it seems like a wonderful society. Sadly, the encroachment of the world will continue to affect it, not for the better I fear.
